Domain: Registered 5/23/02, through my boyfriend's hosting. Then it was hosted through Linux Webhosting. They kinda sucked. Then it was hosted through Netrillium for quite a spell. However, my boyfriend and I then got a dedicated server, and so I moved the site there in May of 2004. :) You can partake of the same dedicated server by signing up for hosting with us at 1121.org.
History: Periapsis.net is not my first domain, and most certainly not my first website. However, I think I have reached a happy place and plan on keeping periapsis.net for a very long time. I've been out and about on the internet since 1995, and my first website was located at willie14.tripod.com, and was mostly X-Files oriented. You know why I picked "willie14"? I picked "willie" after my favorite character in the videogame The Neverhood, Willie Trombone. And the 14 was because I was 14 years old. Haha.
I've hopped around several places since Tripod, and when I got my first domain (can't exactly remember when, but I believe it was sometime late 2000), I couldn't turn back. Finally, no more pop-ups or banner ads or logging on one day to find my host has deleted my website. Pretty much nobody ever saw my first domain, so I won't bother telling you the name. For a while before I got periapsis.net and after I stopped using my first domain, I didn't do much online at all. I used livejournal and diary-x, but ended up scrapping all that. I had dreams of getting a domain again, and discussed possible names with my boyfriend, when one night he woke me up with a surprise -- he had registered periapsis.net, one of the names I had been considereing, for me. With the launching of periapsis.net my internet presence really took off, and I've never let the domain go to waste.
The Journal: I used to have a journal at my website, which I have kept since 1999. However, I've realized recently that my journal entries no longer reflect the person I am. As is expected of any person, I have grown and changed over the past several years. Consequently, I no longer have an interest in keeping an online journal outside of LiveJournal. I decided to take down all my old entries because, like I said, I'm a different person now. I look back on something my 17 year old self wrote, and I can't relate anymore. I remember, but I don't feel the same way. So I've taken it down. It was a hard decision, because such a huge part of my life was contained in those years of entries, but I feel it was ultimately a good decision.
Tools: I use a lot of tools to make this webpage possible (in order of their use/importance to me).
NotepadHow I See Things: With Internet Explorer 7.0, 1280x800 24-bit resolution. I validate my html with the W3C Validator, so if you still can't view things right, then update your browser.
Corel Paint Shop Pro X
WS_FTP95 LE
Etc: The image to the left is a vexel I made of the FFVII asteroid. Brush on the title image is one I made, from the Scribbles set.
Layouts: Nope, I don't have screenshots of my old layouts. Why not? I don't know.. I must have gone through dozens of layouts here, but I just never had the inclination to take a screen cap. Usually when I make a new layout, it's because I've learned something new, and my graphic or html skills have increased. So frankly, old layouts sometimes kind of suck. :)
